Google Analytics Update

Google Analytics has been updated with bug fixes and new feature improvements in Dec 2007. Take a look at some of the biggest updates

• The new Google Analytics tracking code (ga.js) has been launched and is now available for you to use when you set up a profile. Installing the lighter ga.js code snippet instead of the old tracking code (urchin.js, "legacy") lets you take advantage of upcoming advanced features and sophisticated reporting while keeping the reliable tracking capabilities of urchin.js. For these reasons, you should install ga.js instead of urchin.js. For more information on the new ga.js code, including information on migrating over from "urchin.js," check out these resources:

Please note that ga.js and urchin.js will not work if placed on the same page together.

• Google has also added the Multi-line Graph beta feature that graphs two different metrics against each other over time. This feature provides more insights about visitor trends by opening up more options to compare different metrics to each other. For example, you can compare the number of visitors vs. bounce rates for a certain week, or see whether visitors who come to a website through AdWords spend more or less time on the site than visitors overall.

• Google Analytics is now available in six additional languages, bringing the total number of supported languages to 25. The new languages are Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, Czech, Hungarian, and Portuguese (Portugal). Users can access the Google Analytics Help Center and receive online support in any of the 25 languages.

Some other recent fixes and improvements are:

• You can now properly switch profiles in the AdWords interface.
• An issue where some users couldn't select the current date in the Calendar when their time zone was not Pacific Standard Time has been fixed.
• The values for Time on Page, Bounce Rate, $ Index, and % Exit have been corrected in the CSV exports when exporting from the Bar chart view. Some Pie chart % values in an exported PDF have also been corrected.
• Site Search reports no longer display the Ecommerce tab in a profile where "Ecommerce Website" has not been selected. To see the tab, make sure that you have the "Yes, an Ecommerce Site" option selected in your Profile Settings.
