Black Hat Techniques
Black Hat Search Engine Optimization techniques are considered as the unethical or illegal way used to get higher search rankings. Black Hat SEO tries to improve rankings that are considered as deceptions by search engines.
The Black Hat Techniques breaks the rules and regulations which creates a poor user experience. These techniques were earlier being considered as legal. However, they were being misused and hence, considered illegal. These Black Hat practices can earn short term success to a website regarding search engine ranking. But when detected the site will have the risk of being penalized.
Keyword Stuffing:
Search Engines consider the presence of keyword in a webpage while giving rankings. Keyword stuffing refers to long list of keywords that are used more-than-required time so as to fool the search engines.
Doorway Pages:
Doorway pages are only visible to the search engines and not to the users. The pages are filled with keyword rich content to get a high pagerank. The regular web surfer gets redirected from the doorway pages to the original page which the webmasters wants them to see. It is especially for the search engine spiders to trick them into indexing the site.
Hidden Text:
Google ranks a website considering the content of a webpage and the keywords present in it. The Hidden Text Black Hat techniques would add a large amount of text to a webpage but make it invisible to the users. Often the texts are irrelevant and useless and don’t appeal to the web surfers. Text can be made hidden by using Java script to hide text, by cascading style sheets to hide the text and by making both the text and background white.
Unnatural Link Building:
Some websites try to get a large number of back links using various spam techniques. A new site getting many links can be easily ranked high in search engines. Getting links from link farms is one of the Black Hat techniques.
Black Hat Techniques are effective as they give quick result in getting a good page rank as long as the sites are not caught and banned by the search engines.
Difference between Black Hat and White Hat Techniques:
- White Hat techniques conform to all guidelines of search engines and never deceive. But Black Hat techniques violate the rules and regulations of search engines.
- White Hat gives importance to the users and prefers creating valuable contents for the users. Black Hat prepares texts for the search engines and generally makes them hidden to the web surfers.
- Black Hat uses unethical techniques to get a high page rank or get indexed by search engine. White Hat techniques are ethical.
- Black Hat may draw a temporary success to the website in getting indexed high in search engines, but as long as it is not discovered by search engines. White hat may take long time to get indexed, but the result is long-lasting.
The webmasters should not adopt any of the black hat techniques if they want a high rank in search engine result pages and stay there for longer.
