Google Advanced Operators

Updated SEO Consulting Services/Tips

A Complete Tutorial on SEO:SEO Guide

There are some basic operators that instruct Google to perform some functions. Apart from that there are some advanced operators having special meaning to Google. These advanced operators are query words that modify the search engine results. The advanced operators instruct Google to perform a special search.

The advanced operators are used with Google queries with a colon in between the operator and query. There should be no space between them. As far as SEO is concerned the advanced operators are of two types:

  • Alternate Query Type
  • Query Modifiers

Alternate Query Type

Cache:
When “cache” is used with the search query with the name of a particular site the result will show that page containing that keyword for search and highlight it.
Ex: cache:www.auroin.com/seo-topics/ SEO will display the page of that particular URL and highlight all “SEO” word.

Link:
“Link” with the site name in the query displays the list of the site names that have links to the site given for search.

Ex: link:www.auroin.com gives the list of all websites that have built link to auroin.com.

Related:
The query with the operator ‘related’ lists all web pages that are similar to the specified web page.
Ex: related:www.auroin.com will list all the web pages that are related to the site auroin.com

Info:
The query ‘info:’ gives some information about the website, in the search box, provided by Google.

Ex: info:auroin.com will provide some introductory information about auroin.com. This is provided by Google.

Define:
The query ‘define’ with a word or phrase followed by it provides definitions of that given word or phrase collected from different web source.
Ex: define:Keywords Phrase

Query Modifiers

Allintitle:
Allintitle is a type of query which specifies the Google search to title only. It lists the webpages that contain the specified keyword only in title.
Ex: allintitle:hyperlink will display the list of those webpages that have the word ‘hyperlink’ in their titles

Allinurl:
The keyword or keyword phrases followed by the query [allinurl:] gives list of those sites that have that particular keyword or keyword phrases in their URL. [allinurl:] restricts its search to words only not URL components.
Ex: allinurl:seo services will display the list of pages that have ‘seo services’ in their URL in any order.

Intitle:
The query proceeded by [intitle:] lists the webpages that have that particular word in their title. But it differs from [allintitle:] as it does not consider multiple keywords.
Ex: intitle:content writing will display the list of pages that have ‘content’ in their title. Whereas allintitle:content writing will display the list with ‘content writing’ in their title.

Inurl:
If [inurl:] precedes any query then it lists the pages having URL with that keyword for search. But it does not consider keyword phrases.
Ex: inurl:content writing will display the list of pages that have ‘content’ in their URL. Whereas allinurl:content writing will display the list with ‘content writing’ in their URL

Allintext:
Query following [allintext:] results in having the keyword or keyword phrases present in text.

Ex: allintext:on-page optimization will display the webpages whose text have ‘on-page optimization’

Intext:
The query [intext:] followed by any keyword displays the list of pages having that keyword in their text. It is not able to find the keyword phrases, only the first word is considered if a keyword phrase is used.

There should not be any space between the operator, colon and the word following them. The use of advanced operator can give a new dimension to search in Google.
