The concept of Page Rank (popularly called as PR) was introduced by Google. Now most of the growing search engines are adopting this concept to filter their indexing process by valuing web pages and this plays a vital role in presenting the search engine result pages. There are several factors involved in assigning page ranks. Some of these factors are mentioned below:
Factors Influencing Good Page Rank:
New Web pages need some time to be indexed by search engines. Generally search engines need 4-12 weeks to visit a new web site, scan the web pages, index the new web pages and reflect the changes in the indexes. Even if the website is found by search engines it does not get a good ranking on the search. So the following factors need to be taken into consideration to improve the page rank of WebPages.
Link Popularity
Link popularity makes a good support to the web page. It means the number of links that a site is getting from other sites. If a page is getting larger number of links, it will be considered useful and hence, ranked high. It should be taken into consideration that the sites that are making links are related to that particular site. The linked site should contain enough content to be linked.
Hosting Service
Hosting service means the space allowed by the web host companies to individual or organization to have their sites hosted in the World Wide Web. A web site needs to have a reliable and fast hosting service whose server has a good support. It makes the site always available for the web browser. A slow server makes the process of browsing slower.
HTML Code
Presence of too much of HTML codes and JAVA scripts makes it difficult for the web spider to index content of the page. The View source option of web browser can help to give ideas about the source code of the web site. External use of Java Script code can make a page shorter and easier for the web spider.
Sufficient Content
Any website should have sufficient and quality web content to present to the web visitors and search engines. A minimum of 6 pages and each page having at least 200 words are required for a web site to be indexed by the search engines.
Redirection
Redirection makes a page weak. Pages containing redirection options are generally skipped by the search engines. The actual content page of the site is needed to be submitted.
Text Content
Text content on a web page is the main thing that a search engine goes through and indexes according to it. Search engine may not be able to index a site if the pages contain DHTML, Java Scripts or password to access the page.
Frames
Frames are programs to create multiple scrawl regions on a web page. Frames hamper the uniformity of the page. Search engines generally find it difficult to load frames. Hence, frames are avoidable as far as possible.
Flash and Welcome page
Flash is a problem for the search engine to find out. It is always recommended to use normal text that a search engine can identify fast and index. “Welcome” page with link to actual site is a draw back for the site as the search engines may not follow the links.
Dynamically Created Web Page
Dynamically generated Web Page is the technique, using server-side scripting to change the supplied page source between pages. A Dynamically created Web page is always avoidable as far as possible. Though it is a useful tool to manage the data of big websites, from search engines’ point of view it is difficult to find out such pages as the URLs contain special characters.
Special Characters
If the URLs Web Pages contain special characters like ‘&’, ’$’, ‘*’, ‘=’, ‘%’, the search engines ignores it and hinders from indexing the page.
Getting a good page rank is important for webmasters as this helps them boost their ranking in the SERPs of search engines. The webmasters need to consider the above factors while optimizing their webpages so that the web spider can search their sites easily and index them. Above all, the website owners need to design web pages that are convenient for search engines, web surfer and webmaster alike.
