Still, I feel the necessity to inform our visitors who wish to go beyond a bit to know the search engine technology. Well, the field is so vast, sometimes, I wonder from where I should start.

Search engines have a master database which contains billions of websites categorically systematized. When a visitor types a keyword (i.e. search word or search phrase that typed in any search box) for obtaining required and relevant information containing webpages, the search engine produces the search list of webpages within a fraction of second. This search result list is technically known as ‘Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). All these complex works are done by specially designed software.

Different search engines have their own specially designed search software according to their manner of working. But, in the end, the purpose is to provide perfect and relevant information within no time-consumption to the visitors. The search software that Google is using, called as “Google Spider.” Like Google Spider, other search engines like Yahoo, MSN, AllTheWeb, and AltaVista also have their own search softwares. The web crawler that Yahoo and its preferred search engine AltaVista use is known as “Scooter,” MSN web crawler’s name is MSNbot.

Despite so many technological efficiencies, search engines sometime frustrate the visitors while providing search results. The real fact is that these web crawlers are software and as you know that science has its own limitations. So, when a visitor tries to obtain information by typing general queries, obviously irrelevant information appear in the search list. Hence, one should try using more specific terms. The more exact is your query; the better is your search results. So far, we have discussed on search engines, keyword, web crawler etc. I hope you must have got some ideas on search engine technology by now. Let’s go deeper in the search engine world.

PageRank is Google’s measure of the importance of a particular webpage. The more PageRank a webpage gets the more valuable the webpage becomes.
